Kakistocracies was founded in 2015 by three former banking professionals who witnessed firsthand how the lack of credit and debt education was impacting Ghana's emerging professional class. Kofi Mensah, Abena Osei, and Emmanuel Boateng had spent a combined 25 years in Ghana's financial sector, where they repeatedly saw talented entrepreneurs and promising young professionals sabotaged by poor financial decisions.
Beginning with small workshops in Takoradi, the team developed a practical curriculum focused on credit awareness and responsible borrowing, tailored specifically to Ghana's unique financial landscape. These workshops quickly gained attention for their straightforward approach and measurable results, with participants reporting significant improvements in financial outcomes.
By 2018, Kakistocracies had expanded to Accra and Kumasi, formalizing partnerships with universities and professional associations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization pivoted to digital delivery, developing Ghana's first comprehensive online platform for credit and debt education accessible via mobile devices throughout the country.
Today, Kakistocracies serves thousands of Ghanaians annually through in-person training, digital courses, and corporate programs, continuing its mission of building financial resilience through practical credit and debt management education.
